GPS and Data Radar Detectors: Line Overview
Radar detector units with a GPS module: what position data adds, which update questions to settle, and the specification fields to confirm.
Overview
This line covers units that include a GPS module alongside the radar receiver, compared with units that ship without one. A GPS module gives the unit access to position and speed data. In this product category that data is used for driver-facing functions the supplier documents per SKU, such as showing vehicle speed, recording points the driver saves, and supporting settings that vary by situation. It is not used for any enforcement-related function, and listings should not describe it as one.
Every value on this page is pending per SKU. The GPS specification, the update method, and the behavior after power loss are confirmed in writing before an order, in the same way as the band list.
Buying points
- GPS module included or not, stated per SKU rather than assumed

- Update method for firmware and any data: cable, phone connection, or none
- Whether settings and saved points survive a power cycle
- Time to first position fix after a cold start, as documented by the supplier
- Manual language for the GPS functions your market expects

Frequently asked questions
Does the GPS module track the vehicle?
The module receives position data for the unit's own driver-facing functions, such as a speed readout or points the driver saves. The products on this site do not include tracking services, and listings should not describe them as connected services unless the supplier documents one in writing.
What is the difference between the GPS and non-GPS builds?
The receiver and alert functions are compared on the same fields: band list, display, mounting, and power. The GPS build adds position-based functions and an update path, and it costs more. A buyer who does not need the position functions can spec the non-GPS build and put the difference into display or accessories.
How are firmware and data updated?
Per SKU, confirmed in writing: by cable to a computer, through a phone connection, or not at all. Ask who hosts the update, whether it is free, and whether settings survive the process. See the updates reference page for the full question list.
Which markets suit the GPS line?
Markets where drivers value speed readouts and saved personal points, and where the manual language and marking can be confirmed for the destination. Confirm local rules for the category before listing in any market.
