MOQ and volume bands
Minimum order quantities and volume bands
How minimum order quantities are set for car radar detectors, how volume bands work, and what a first trial order can look like.
Minimum order quantities are set per SKU by the partner factory, and they are confirmed in writing in every quote. Figures shown anywhere on this site stay pending until that confirmation.
Why a minimum exists
A production run of electronics has fixed setup work: programming, assembly line changeover, and the first-piece checks. Below a certain quantity, that fixed work dominates the unit cost, and the price stops making sense for both sides. The minimum is not arbitrary, and it is not a negotiating tactic.
Volume bands
Quotes are organized in four volume bands. Name your band when you request a quote so the factory prices the right tier.
| Band | Typical purpose |
|---|---|
| Sample only | Evaluate the product before any commitment |
| Trial order | First sales run, often near the minimum |
| Repeat order | Restock of a model that is selling |
| Project planning | Seasonal or multi-SKU programs |
Working with a minimum
- Fewer colors and one firmware version keep a run at its lowest workable size.
- A mixed carton across model variants may be possible for a first order; ask, and get the answer in writing.
- Order the quantity you can sell through, plus a stated spare percentage for damaged units.
- Ask what happens to pricing at the next quantity break before you commit to a tier.
What a trial order confirms
A trial order is not only a purchase. It tests the packing, the documents, the transit time, and the after-sales process with real volume. Record what you learn; the repeat order is planned from that record.
