Sample Checklist for Radar Detector Units

What to photograph, measure, and test on a radar detector sample before you approve it for production.

A sample approved by feel alone invites production disputes. Work through this list, record the results, and approve in writing against the specification sheet.

On arrival

  • Photograph the outer carton, the inner box, and the packing as opened.
  • Record the carton dimensions and weight, and the retail box dimensions.
  • Note any odor on opening and again after a day.

The unit

  • Photograph every face, the display in day and night settings, and the label.
  • Measure the housing and weigh the unit with and without accessories.
  • Check the label text against the agreed artwork, letter by letter.
  • Confirm the mounting hardware matches the specification, and fit it to a vehicle.

Function

  • Power up from the intended power source; record startup behavior.
  • Confirm the display shows alerts legibly in daylight and at night.
  • Test audio levels and the mute function while driving.
  • Confirm controls and modes match the manual, step by step.
  • Record the firmware version shown or stated by the supplier.

Box contents

  • Count accessories against the packing list: mount, cable, fuse, manual, card.
  • Read the manual as a customer would; note anything unclear.

Sign-off

Write the approved dimensions, weights, photographs, and the specification reference into one record. Both sides acknowledge it by email. Keep one unopened sample as the production reference, and give the inspector the record with the order.
